On November 17, the leading Chinese battery manufacturer CALB (China Lithium Battery Technology Co., Ltd.) announced the expansion of its production capacities to over 500 GWh by 2025.
In 2015, Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd.) on high-end manufacturing development. CALB's production center in the Jintan district of Changzhou was the first big project of the cooperation. From January to October this year, the company achieved a total of 6.4 GWh installed capacity of lithium-ion batteries, ranking third in China with the fastest growth among the top manufacturers.
Since the beginning of 2021, CALB has accelerated its industrial expansion. It has now set up seven industrial bases in Changzhou, Luoyang, Xiamen, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Hefei.
CALB also wants to push ahead massively with research and development, with four major research institutes in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Changzhou, and Chengdu. Its industrial bases and R&D centers in Europe and North America have entered the planning phase.
At the press conference on the 17th, CALB signed cooperation agreements with its 15 strategic partners, namely Huayou Cobalt, CNGR, Cnano Technology, COSCO Shipping, Chery Automobile, Clarios International, BMZ, Forsee Power, and Marubeni.
The Jiangsu Power and Storage Battery Manufacturing Innovation Union — led by CALB and gathering enterprises on the supply chain — was officially established on the same day.
