The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on June 14 this year, and the holiday lasts from June 12 (Saturday) to June 14 (Monday).
As one of the four grandest traditional festivals in China, the Dragon Boat Festival has been observed for over 2,000 years, to commemorate Qu Yuan (340-278 BC), an ancient Chinese patriotic poet.
Traditional celebrations of the festival include eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats.
