Changzhou Benniu International Airport ended 2024 with a historic achievement, surpassing 4.5 million passengers for the first time, marking a 13.2% year-on-year increase. This milestone underscores the airport’s expanding role as a vital transportation hub since its opening in 1986.

In 2024, the airport significantly broadened its reach, adding new domestic destinations such as Bo’ao and Turpan, while strengthening connections to major cities like Shenzhen, Kunming, Shenyang, Harbin, and Changsha. On the international front, a new direct route to Tokyo was introduced, complementing ongoing services to Bangkok, Nha Trang, Vientiane, and Macao.

By the close of the year, Changzhou Airport had established connections to 41 cities worldwide, working with 16 airline partners. It now offers more than two daily flights to 14 destinations and over four daily flights to five key locations. These expanded services drove record-breaking passenger traffic, peaking at 18,000 passengers per day and 490,000 per month.

Operational achievements also marked a pivotal year for the airport. In 2024, it became the seventh airport in China to establish controlled airspace, the only mid-sized airport to achieve this distinction, approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Air Traffic Management Bureau. This upgrade improved airspace efficiency and contributed to an on-time departure rate of nearly 80%.

Passenger experience also saw significant improvements. The airport reduced check-in cutoff times to just 35 minutes and introduced amenities like dedicated counters for special assistance passengers, nursing mothers’ rooms, and child-friendly strollers. Personalized transit services, such as same-day transfer and fast track options, were launched, and direct baggage transfer services to cities like Jinzhou, Mianyang, and Quanzhou further enhanced convenience.

On the cargo side, Changzhou Airport processed 20,800 tons of freight and mail in 2024, reflecting steady growth. The introduction of seasonal freighter flights by SF Airlines to Ezhou marked a new milestone. The launch of STO Express’s “land-to-air” logistics service and the expansion of fresh produce exports—shipping local specialties like crayfish and peaches to cities including Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bangalore—further underscored the airport’s growing importance in global trade.

Looking ahead, Changzhou Airport aims to surpass five million passengers in 2025, with plans for the resumption of direct flights to Hong Kong in the first half of the year.
